History

Zandbergen & Zn. vleeswaren B.V. began its history as a butcher’s shop and specialised in the course of the years to become a meat products producer. In 1985, the Haarlem premises on Jan van Krimpenweg came into use and, in 1987, the company decided to focus entirely on the production of bacon. Due to the company’s continuous growth, various alterations have been carried out. In 2001, it became apparent that a large-scale renovation of the premises was necessary. Demand continued to rise, particularly in the export sector. For this reason, in 2006, Zandbergen decided to open a new, modern factory with a number of additional lines - primarily for export products.

The new building is primarily geared towards export. Thousands of kilos of meat are processed each week by 20 to 30 employees each day. In the existing building, the incoming bellies are boned, derinded and trimmed. After this, they are salted and pickled and subsequently smoked. Part of the meat is processed and packaged in the first building, while some of it is transferred in crates to the new building via the elevated bridge. Here, it makes its way, fully automatically, to the roller conveyor, through the cold stores and, from there, to one of the packing lines where it takes its final shape. Employees monitor the process constantly. Once it has been packed, the meat goes on to the dispatch area. The new premises are equipped with two loading docks from where the products are transported in refrigerated lorries to our clients.
